Green Peas (Chonya) Ross


2 Cups Dried Green Peas soaked overnight

1 Cup Fresh Grated Coconut

1 Lrg Onion chopped

5 Garlic Cloves

1 Inch Ginger

3 Green Chillies

1 Sprig Curry leaves

1 Tsp Tumeric pwd

1 Tsp Mustard seeds

4 Tsp Garam Masala pwd

3 Tbs Oil

Salt as per taste


Heat 1 Tbs Oil in a pan and roast the Onions, Ginger, Garlic, Green chillies and Coconut till the whole mixture turns light brown as shown in pic. Keep aside to cool down.

Once the Roasted mixture is cool, put it in a mixer bowl to grind.

Add little Water and grind to a fine paste

In a Cooker heat the remaining 2 Tbs Oil, add the Mustard seeds, Once they begin to splatter add the Curry leaves .

Now add the Ground paste, Tumeric pwd and Garam masala pwd.

Add Water in the mixer bowl for later use

Fry the Ground paste mixture for a minute.

Now add the soaked Peas and give it a good stir and fry for another minute.

Add the Water from the mixer bowl and Salt as per your taste.

Cover the lid of the cooker and cook for 3 whistles. Turn off the flame and once cooled down open the lid and check for salt.

P.N. The number of whistles may differ as per your cooker.

Serve with Kadak Pao or Chapatis.
