Beef Xacuti a popular dish cooked for many Goan occasions. Goes well with Pulao or Pav
1 Kg Diced beef
2 Cups Fresh Grated Coconut
10 Small Dried Coconut pcs
3 Medium Onions chopped
1 Tsp Tumeric pwd
2 Medium Tomato chopped
1 Potato diced into cubes(Optional)
1 Sprig Curry leaves
1/2 Cup Fresh Coriander leaves chopped
3 Green Chillies slit
1 Tbsp Ginger/Garlic paste
2 Tbsp Xacuti pwd
Juice of 1 lime
Salt as per taste
Oil for cooking
1 Star anise deseeded
1 Floret Mace
2 Tbsp Coriander seeds
3 Inch Cinnamon stick
4 Green Cardamon pods
1/4 Pc Nutmeg
1 Tsp Cumin seeds
1 Tsp Fennel seeds
1 Tsp Poppy seeds
25 Black Pepper corns
20 Dried Red Chillies
Roast the above ingredients separately, cool down and grind to a fine powder. Bottle it for future use.
Marinate the Diced Beef with lime and salt for half an hour.
In a frying pan roast the grated coconut, dried coconut pieces, 2 of the chopped onions till it goes light brown in colour and cool down.
In a mixer bowl add the roast coconut mix, chopped tomato, curry leaves, and the xacuti powder and grind with little water to form a paste.
In a Cooking utensil heat 2 Tbsp oil and fry the remaining 1 onion, green chillies and ginger/garlic paste till the onions go soft.
Add the ground paste and fry for a min.
Now add the marinated beef fry for another min.
Add water to your desired consistency and cook till the beef is half done.
Add the diced potatoes(optional) and cook further till done. Check for salt, garnish with chopped coriander leaves and is ready to serve.
